When it comes to fountains, mayor franz stumpf (CSU/WUO) feels like a "burnt child". With an allusion to the frequently defective time fountain at the forchheim train station, stumpf opened agenda item seven of the planning committee on monday: new construction of a fountain in kloster-/eisenbahnstrabe.
However, after bamberger artist bernd wagenhauser presented his fountain to the committee, confidence prevailed among the city councilors. Only manfred mauser (FBF) was skeptical about the design: "I can't do much with it."
On the other hand, manfred hummer () found the artwork "daring and interesting"; stefan schick and edith fieber considered the work "successful and josua flierl emphasized that thanks to this "very good work of art", the city will be able to enjoy a better quality of life its slogan "modern, with an old core" will be fair. Reinhold otzelberger (SPD) was also pleased that the city now has its first steel fountain.
Own creativity in demand
However, otzelberger's enthusiasm about the inspiration of the bamberg artist was not entirely without irony: "in this way we are following the prince-bishop tradition: bamberg stimulates what is realized in forchheim."
Albert dorn (SPD) pointed out that all art is created in the eye of the beholder. In this, the SPD council was right in line with bernd wagenhauser's philosophy of art: viewed from the front, the 2.40-meter-high fountain gate should be reminiscent of a camera shutter that opens up a view of a dynamic spiral. But what the viewer ultimately perceives when looking through the gate is a question of "self-creativity", said bernd wagenhauser. The spirals of his fountain art stretch over nine meters; they adapt to the slightly sloping land – and become smaller and smaller: the higher spirals are 1.50 meters high, the lower ones only 60 centimeters high.
The sparkasse forchheim, which is donating the fountain to the city and will place it in front of its school building in the eisenbahnstrabe, has commissioned bernd wagenhauser, an artist who has already won 19 competitions. And of course the discussion about the poorly maintained time fountain at the train station has not escaped his attention. Probably for this reason, he pointed out that his fountain had no basin in which plastic water could accumulate; moreover, the duses were so coarse that they could not calcify. And finally, wagenhauser emphasized that his steel fountain sculpture will also be attractive in winter and in times without water: "the fountain achieves its effect even without water."
